There are plenty of massage places in Fort Myers to choose from, so choosing the right one may not be so easy. Spas in Fort Myers

There are very expensive luxury spas in Fort Myers that, in addition to massage, provide facials, manicures, pedicures, salt scrubs, etc.  At some, you can even order a glass of wine while you wait.  Deep Tissue Massage at some of these spas may exceeds $115 for a 50-minute session. The benefit is that you can have your nails done, or your eyebrows plucked, without ever having to leave the comfort of your massage therapist’s office.  The downside is, of course, the cost. As far as the actual massage goes, it is only as good as the therapist providing it.  You can receive a great massage in a poor setting for a reasonable cost just as you can receive a poor massage in an incredible setting for a much higher price.  My advice is NOT to be taken in by the atmosphere but rather do your research regarding the qualifications, experience, and online reviews of the individual therapists.  That being said, you should always insist on a quiet, clean, and safe environment for your massage therapy session.

Membership Based Massage Places

There are also a number of membership-based massage places in Fort Myers with hundreds or even thousands of affiliated locations worldwide. Their business models often involve paying a monthly membership fee in exchange for a discounted massage rate. Depending upon how many massages you receive, this may be a good choice for you.  The upside is that there are many locations to choose from and, if you usually get several massages a month, it can be cost effective.  The downside is that you may be locked into a yearly contract even if you are unable to find a therapist you like, and you still may  have to pay your monthly fee even if you receive no massage in a particular month (some places might let you put your account on hold if you are sick or travel to a place where they do not have affiliate locations).  Another downside may be that each franchise location is so big, and so many therapists are employed at each, that it is difficult to conduct adequate background checks on each employee or to adequately monitor their performance. There have been numerous lawsuits filed against some of the largest massage franchises in the United States alleging varying degrees of misconduct by the massage therapists that work there.  Again, do your homework before choosing the right massage therapist for you.  Some of the therapists at these places may be worth their weight in gold while others may leave you thinking that you have made the biggest mistake of your life.

Therapist-Owned Massage Establishments

The vast majority of massage places in Fort Myers are, for lack of a better term, your therapist-owned massage establishments and salons.  Here, individual therapist, either alone or in conjunction with other therapists, provide massage therapy and sometimes other spa related services.  Massage at one of these places typically costs about $80-$90 per hour.  The benefit of these establishments is that their services are often reasonably priced and they are often owned by the actual massage therapists who have a vested interest in the business and its ultimate success. In many cases the best massage therapists, feeling underpaid or overworked at the larger franchises, have left their employ with those establishments to open their own businesses.

The downside to the therapist-owned massage establishment is that they often lack the resources to employ a dedicated receptionist, making it more difficult to schedule an appointment. Also, they often offer fewer services than the more expensive luxury spas.  If, however, you are looking for a great massage without all the bells and whistles of a luxury salon, this may be the right choice for you.
